Lately, I’ve been trying to lean more intentionally into slow living — not in a dramatic, overhaul-my-life kind of way, but in small, gentle ways. Lighting a candle before I read. Letting myself journal without rushing. Choosing activities that invite me to slow down instead of speed up. When I came across This Month’s Craft, it felt like one of those small opportunities: a simple way to step outside my routine and spend an evening creating something with my hands instead of my screen.
I’ve always believed there’s something quietly magical about trying something new with your hands. Not in a big, life-changing way — just in that small, grounding way where you forget to check your phone, lose track of time, and end up with something tangible at the end of it.
That’s exactly what drew me to This Month’s Craft, a monthly subscription box designed to help you explore new hobbies without the stress of researching supplies or figuring out where to start. Their whole mission is about making creativity feel accessible and fun — not overwhelming — and as someone who loves the idea of crafting but sometimes gets stuck at the planning stage, it felt like the perfect little experiment.
My First Box: Soap Making
My first box was an introduction to soap making, which felt both practical and a little luxurious. There’s something satisfying about creating something you can actually use — especially when it smells good and looks pretty on the bathroom counter.
The kit included everything: soap bases, molds, scents, dried flowers, and pigments to color the soaps. Opening it felt like unpacking a tiny creative adventure.
Of course, in classic me fashion, I got so excited to start that I didn’t fully empty the box before diving in. I melted, mixed, poured, and decorated… feeling very accomplished… only to realize at the very end that there were pigments I hadn’t even noticed.
Apparently I was so eager to begin that I skipped the “take inventory” step entirely.
But honestly? That’s part of what made the experience fun. It wasn’t about getting it perfect. It was about being curious enough to try.

What I Loved About the Experience
What I appreciated most was how low-pressure it felt. There was no scrolling through endless supply lists or debating whether I had the “right” tools. Everything I needed was right there, waiting for me to just… begin.
And once I did, it was surprisingly calming. Pouring the soap, choosing scents, arranging the dried flowers — it felt a little like cooking, a little like art, and a lot like giving my brain a break.
It reminded me how nice it is to do something creative purely for the joy of it. Not for productivity. Not for work. Just for the experience.
Will I Keep Going?
Honestly, yes.
There’s something comforting about having a creative project arrive at your door each month — a gentle nudge to step outside your routine and try something new. Even if you don’t do it perfectly. Even if you miss half the pigments the first time around.
Sometimes creativity isn’t about mastery. It’s just about showing up and seeing what happens.
And this box made that feel easy.
