The story takes us to Dream Harbor, a postcard-perfect town that feels tailor-made for an autumn escape. Jeanie, our main character, needs a reset after life in the city leaves her feeling drained and unfulfilled. When her aunt decides to retire and hand over her beloved café, Jeanie suddenly finds herself the proud—but slightly overwhelmed—owner of The Pumpkin Spice Café. With recipes to learn, customers to charm, and a business to keep afloat, she’s quickly swept into small-town rhythms filled with cinnamon rolls, lattes, and community ties that run deeper than she expected.

And then there’s Logan, the local farmer. He’s gruff, steady, and not exactly welcoming when Jeanie first arrives in Dream Harbor. He prefers hard work in the fields over chit-chat, and he’s not about to fall for the bright-eyed newcomer who doesn’t yet understand the way of small-town life. But of course, sparks fly. Jeanie is sunshine and hope; Logan is grounded and guarded. Together, their slow-burn connection is the kind of romance that feels equal parts frustrating, funny, and sweet.

Yes, the romance is a little cheesy at times—predictable in that Hallmark-movie way—but honestly? That’s part of the fun. I caught myself smiling at their back-and-forth, and the moments where Logan’s walls begin to crack were heart-melting in the best possible way. Sometimes you don’t need a complicated love story; sometimes you just need one that feels warm and familiar, like a favorite seasonal drink you can count on.

What I loved most, though, was the atmosphere. Dream Harbor is the kind of town you wish you could step into: neighbors who look out for each other, cozy shops to explore, and of course, a café at the center of it all where everyone gathers. Gilmore leans into all the fall aesthetics—crunching leaves, spiced lattes, cozy sweaters, and harvest markets—and it absolutely works. Reading this book made me want to bake something with cinnamon, light an autumn candle, and maybe even plan a little small-town weekend getaway of my own.

This isn’t a book that reinvents the romance genre, but that’s not the point. The Pumpkin Spice Café is about comfort. It’s about slowing down, embracing community, and letting yourself enjoy the sweeter side of life.

Final take: Slightly cheesy romance? Absolutely. But also entertaining, heartwarming, and full of cozy vibes. If you love fall, small-town escapes, and happily-ever-afters with a touch of pumpkin spice, this book is a delightful pick.
